Trøbbel i tårnet

3 days in to our stay in Portsmouth we got some bad news. The guy fixing our hydraulic pump also agreed to a check of the rig. After a quick inspection we could identify three major issues, all of which seperately could cost us our mast.

We figured out that the best thing to do would be to pull out the mast and fix it up. The rig guy, Brian, gave us a great deal, and offered us a solution where we could get to do most of the work ourselves, saving lots of money. The wharf will be ready for us next wednesday, and the repair time is estimated to 2-3 days. (But there might very well be some surprises once we get a closer look at the rig.) Until then, we’ll prepare the mast for pulling by removing all sails, the boom, disconnect the electrics and prepare stays and shrouds.

It’s gong to cost us blood, sweat, tears and quite a bit of money, and is a depressing matter all together. But on the other hand, it will be very releaving to know that our rig is all right. Crossing oceans with a 30 years old rod rig is risky business, and have given us quite a few bad dreams over the last two weeks.

  1. Hei August, liker den nye sveisen. Gjør en god jobb med riggen, husk de tre bud, keel down, water out og mast up. Sitter på kontoret og misunner dere, Vidar

    • Hei, Vidar! Hehe, hjertelig takk! 😉 – August

  2. Ship o’hoy lads!
