As the departure draws nearer we try to keep our workflow up and panic down. The last items to get fitted are the radar arch and wind vane. The radar arch was designed and built from scratch using stainless steel pipes and sheets. Building one sounded easy enough, but it has been a tedious project and finally seeing it mounted on the boat is a definite milestone. Placed on top and free from shadows two 85w solar cell panels have found their home, and a radar is soon to follow.

Inspecting the solar panel.. And the scary guy with the camera

We chose the german made Windpilot Pacific Plus wind vane. The Windpilot is a mechanical self-steering unit which draws its power from the water and its directions from the wind. Apart from making us one with nature, it enables sailing with no one at the helm, and without spending any electricity.
